Following the success of the ‘Coast to Coast’ and ‘London Paris’ editions. This years crack team of Morning Star cyclists are pedalling ‘In the Shadow of Giants’

The long anticipated 3rd Edition challenge rolls out with a two part sportive.Part 1 is a two-day (9th & 10th July) 150 mile journey from Liverpool to Durham riding in the name of ‘The Sam Watts Brigade’ honouring the local Merseyside Morning Star organiser who dedicated his life to the class struggle and recently died.Riders and logistics crew will then join thousands of trade unionists and progressives at the Annual Durham Miners Gala on 11th July. The challenging route has a flat, fast 70 mile profile for the first day with an overnight stay in Carnforth before the daunting second day of around 80 miles that navigates between the Lake District National Park and the hilly, rolling terrain of the Yorkshire Dales.

Riders will have little respite following the Durham stage, riding out again the following week on Part 2 (July 18) in the name of ‘The Harry Pollit Brigade’ . The East Manchester boilermaker who rose from the shop stewards movement to become leader of the Communist Party.

A 60 mile journey laced in the history of class struggle will finish in the heart of Manchester with a victory rally and social.

The Harry Pollit bicycling brigadistas are still looking for sponsors so why not help get our fund raising target of £3,000 off to a flying start by supporting us and our efforts.
