Following the strike decision, for a strike starting on 17 April 2016, by thousands of oil workers to thwart attempts to dismantle workers’ benefits – which arises in the context of Kuwaiti government attempts to put the burden of the drop in oil prices on the workers – the government is trying to dissolve the their trade unions. The government has directed the prosecutor general to investigate the unions’ leaders.
